File 1: Yoko Kusano (Fukushima, Japan, 1993)
Kusano is a Japanese photographer and active both in fine art and commercial photography. When she was a student at Kuwasawa Design in Tokyo in 2014, she received a special prize from Masafumu Ssanai at the 37th Canon New Cosmos Photography competition. Kusano has published “Untitled” (self-published, 2015), “Everything is temporary” (Pull the Wool, 2017), “Yoko Kusano x Motola Serena” (Daikanyama Books, 2017) and “Across the Sea” (Roshin Books, 2018). She has exhibited “Everything is temporary” at Quiet Noise in Tokyo in 2017. Kusano also showed her work for “LUMIX MEETS BEYOND 2020” in Tokyo, Paris and Amsterdam. LUMIX MEETS BEYOND 2020 is a special project by IMA, Tokyo and it aims at introducing an emerging talent to the world.
The portfolio she shared with us includes her most recent work about her boyfriend and best friend. She takes a photo of her daily life and I appreciate that she keeps soft and gentle gaze by taking a less contrived approach and find that she freely enjoys her feminine quality that is very particular and special to Japanese people.

草野庸子（1983年・福島生まれ）
草野庸子は、商業写真から出版・展示まで幅広く活躍する日本の写真家です。桑沢デザインでグラッフィック科を専攻し、在学中に参加した新世紀のコンテストで、佐内正史から、優勝賞を授かります。草野は、2014年に「第37回写真新世紀優秀賞」（佐内正史選）を受賞し、2018年の「LUMIX MEETS BEYOND 2020」において、将来を期待される6名の作家の一人として選出されました。本展覧会は、アムステルダム、パリ、東京で開催され高く評価を受けています。
この度、草野さんが提出していただいたポートフォリオは、ボーイフレンドや男友達を日常の生活の中で2018年に撮影した作品です。私が、草野さんの作品を好きな理由は、女性的で優しく、柔らかい気持ちが正直に表れている点です。日常生活がどんなに辛いことがあったり、荒々しい騒動に巻き込まれたりしても、草野さんのスタンスは、きっと、変わらないのだろうなと思います。そんな、草野さんの優しいだけでなく、強く、美しく、まっすぐな世界観に憧れます。そして、これからも草野さんの瑞々しい感性は変わらないであろうことを信じています。
